ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES FIRST COACHING STAFF:

GRIZZLIES HEAD COACH: GREG PULLIAM

Greg Pulliam assumed the Head Coaching duties of the first year Revelstoke Grizzlies. Greg came aboard with 20 years of playing experience along with 4 years of coaching as well as a great enthusiasm and dedication for the sport. Greg grew up in Revelstoke where he played his entire minor hockey. He then played Junior A for the Revelstoke Rockets and the Revelstoke Rangers of the BCJHL.

Greg’s formal hockey career really took off at the college level where he spent 1 and 1/2 years as Captain of the Red Deer College Kings. Greg also took on the leadership role as captain for the Red Deer Rustlers in 1987 and they won the Alberta Championship in Tier 2 Junior A.

His hard work and dedication lead him to Graz, Austria where he played professional hockey for 2 years for UEC/GRAZ. There Greg acted as player/coach and also coached the UEC Junior team. While there Greg acquired a number of valuable coaching skills and he shared his European knowledge with the Grizzlies.

Leaving Austria, Greg returned to Canada and played Senior AAA in Whitehorse, Kimberley and Revelstoke.

Over the years Greg developed a straight forward coaching philosophy as a result of making hockey his lifetime sport.

Greg believes that discipline, hard work and dedication are the key elements in fulfilling any goals one may have, whether it be on the ice, in the classroom or in just everyday living. Realizing the importance of schooling, Greg not only demands the best performance on the ice but also at school throughout the year.

GRIZZLIES ASSISTANT COACH: DARREN KOMONOSKI

Darren was born and raised in Saskatchewan, and he and his wife moved to Revelstoke two years ago. Darren had a number of years of hockey experience both as a player and a coach. Darren has played as a goalie for such formidable teams as: The Swift Current Broncos, Prince Albert Raiders, Moose Jaw Generals and the Assinboia Southern Rebels. Darren also played in Europe for the Telford Tigers in London, England’s 1st Division. Komonoski’s excellent skills as a goaltender and his great communication with young players have also made him an effective coach. His coaching experience extends from 1984 to 1990. Over these years he coached minor hockey in Saskatchewan and England. He enjoys the challenge of teaching others the sport and will certainly be a key element in training the Grizzlies goalies.

GRIZZLIES ASSISTANT COACH: GARRY THOMSEN

Garry Thomsen joined the Grizzlies as a part-time coach. “My main priority is coaching minor hockey,” he said. “I’m just going to help the Grizzlies out when they are at home.” Garry was raised in southeast Alaska and never had the chance to play organized hockey. For him, coaching is the next best thing. He has been associated with hockey for 22 years, coaching all levels of minor hockey and various senior teams. Garry started coaching in Stewart during the late 1960’s and he continued coaching after moving to Terrace.

Last season (92/93) Garry took the Terrace Minor Midget “AA” reps to the Provincials. His team won the Sportsmanship Award. Garry was associated with the Pee Wee reps and co-ordinated an Atom development program for the Terrace Minor Hockey Association.

Garry will not only be with the Grizzlies but will also be working with Revelstoke minor hockey for the season and at the same time completing his advanced (Level 5) coaching certification.
