Season Summary
The 2001-02 KIJHL added two new teams, the Kimberley Dynamiters and the Summerland Sting, then realigned the League into three Divisions. The Revelstoke Grizzlies were shifted into the newly created OKANAGAN SHUSWAP Division. Enderby's team name changed (from North Okanagan Kings) to ENDERBY ICE KINGS and Osoyoos became the OSOYOOS STORM (instead of Osoyoos Heat). The League down-sized to a 50 game schedule plus playoffs, stayed with OTL and reinstated displaying each team's penalty minutes.
The Grizzlies exchanged their four year BCHL affiliation with the Merritt Centennials for one with the Vernon Vipers. GM Larry Black said, "The last four years with Merritt have been wonderful, but from a geographical point of view, its a lot easier for us to affiliate with Vernon which is closer."
The Grizzlies lost their favorite assistant coach, Randy Merritt, as the CPR posted Randy to a new out-of-town position. Jesse Anchikoski, who played in the KIJHL for Enderby when Rob Boyd was in charge of the Kings, came aboard as the new Assistant Coach.
2001-02 Grizzlies had a somewhat successful season. The rivalry between Revelstoke and Sicamous intensified. Last season the Grizzlies took 1st place, 19 points ahead of the Eagles but this season the Eagles reversed the placing by finishing on top, 11 points ahead of the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies had eight returning veterans and treated their fans with an impressive 19 home-game wins while losing just 4 and tying 2. Three of the home-ice losses were to arch-rival Sicamous and the other was to Summerland. The tie games were with Sicamous and Castlegar.
On the road the Grizzlies were equally impressive racking up 16 wins, 6 losses with 2 ties and 1 overtime loss. The Grizzlies topped the League in penalty minutes, accumulating over 3,000 minutes. Kevin Coutts who missed just one regular season game was the Grizzlies top scorer and took the Okanagan Shuswap Divison scoring title with 36 goals and 41 assists for 77 points. Two other Grizzlies finished in the Division's top ten: Paul Girodat, 34G & 22A for 56 points and Scott Sinclair, 19G & 33A for 52 points.
Kevin Coutts was third overall in League scoring, just one point behind Creston's Darryl Adams (35G & 43A) and Beaver Valley's Jake Morrissette was first with 49G & 40A for 89 points.
At season's end the Grizzlies goaltending duo of Elron Lilgert and Jordan Pehr ranked 6th overall in League goaltending.
The Grizzlies dominated every team in the League except for Sicamous. The Grizzlies had a perfect 8 win record against Eddie Mountain teams, outscoring them 59 to 18. Versus the Neil Murdoch the Grizzlies were 8W - 1T - 1L, outscoring them 49 to 23. Their one loss was in Beaver Valley (3-1). In their new Okanagan Shuswap Division the Grizzlies versus Enderby Ice Kings were 7 and 1, outscoring them 49 to 20, versus Osoyoos Storm: 7W and 1L, outscoring them 58 to 17, versus Summerland Sting: 5W - 1L - 2T, outscoring them 37 to 23. But against the Sicamous Eagles the Grizzlies managed only 2 points by going winless with 1T - 6L - 1OTL and were outscored 26 - 48.
