THE LEAGUE EXPANDED:
The Fernie Ghostriders returned to the League and were placed in the Eddie Mountain Division balancing the three divisions with five teams each, allowing the top four teams in each division to advance into the playoffs. The season remained a 50 game schedule, but with a change to inter-divisional travel. The Grizzlies did not travel to the Neil Murdoch Division this season; instead those teams visited the Grizzlies. The Grizz won 4 and lost 1 (Beaver Valley). The Eddie Mountain Division teams did not visit the Forum and the Grizzlies traveled to their division, winning 2 and losing 3.
THE SEASON - As you take a 'scroll' through the Grizzlies 04/05 season:
Steve Miller was back behind the bench and also as GM. Rob Boyd (former
Grizz Head Coach 2000 to 2002) joined as Associate Coach alongside returnee Bill Kapak. Kellie
Christy returns as Trainer, and Rocky Mix (retired Grizzlies player) was appointed Director of
Media Relations.
The Grizzlies broadcast their hockey games over the internet with Rocky Mix as their
play-by-play announcer, as well as featuring a TV show "GRIZZLIES THIS WEEK" and a "GRIZZLIES
GAME of the WEEK" on local cable RCTV.
Two Alumni Games:
Grizzlies Alumni vs City All-Stars & Revelstoke Merchants with Revelstoke Selkirks.
The Grizzlies affiliated players with the BCHL's Quesnel Millionaires, the Williams Lake
TimberWolves and the Vernon Vipers.
The Grizzlies also received a newly renovated dressing room (at last).
The Grizzlies players represent themselves off the ice and are very involved in the community,
visiting and helping out at schools with the "Rrroaring to Rrread" literacy program, floor
hockey games, and serving at local restaurants, the seniors centre and also
many other event appearances around Revelstoke.
The Forum's "Beer Garden" was a success earning a good report. Forum attendance swells to a
new high, "A Miracle on Ice" as fans and the city turn out in-mass to cheer and support the
Grizzlies as they stage a comeback after being down 3 games to none against Sicamous in the
divisional semi-final.
A new Awards Night format is a great success and the Grizzlies Web site along with Rocky Mix's
page is one of the best, if not the best, in junior hockey.
