The Fourteenth Season 2006 - 2007
Under New Ownership (New Logo)

Coach of the Year

2006-2007 Revelstoke Grizzlies
Monday, June 5, 2006 – NEW MANAGEMENT, NEW LOGO and NEW UNIFORMS START THE NEW SEASON.

GRIZZLIES ARE OFFICIALLY SOLD. The community owned Grizzlies became the property of Vernon businessmen, JOE DAUENHAUER, RON KOLMAN and MIKE JODOIN.

THE NEW OWNER’S MISSION STATEMENT: “Our Mission Statement says we want to be operating as Canada’s number one Junior B franchise by focusing on on-ice skills and personal development through education, accountability and respect for the organization. Our commitment to the citizens of Revelstoke is to do our very best to make the Grizzlies not only a competitive team in the KIJHL that will excite the fans, but also to become an integral part of Revelstoke through participation in many activities throughout the community.”

THE LEAGUE entered its 40th year with some changes and new rules.

- NO MORE TIE GAMES, THERE WILL BE AN ACTUAL WINNER. The league will continue to use a 5 minute, four-on-four overtime. If still tied then a 5 man shootout will follow. If that doesn’t break the tie then a sudden-death shootout will take place to determine a winner.

- REFEREES will be calling everything, as in the BCHL, WHL and NHL.

- FIGHTING. The one-fight rule replaced with the two-fight rule.

- A 52 GAME SEASON: 26 home game and 26 away games.

- TWO FRANCHISES SOLD: The Revelstoke Grizzlies and the Golden Xtreme.

- ONE RE-NAMED: The Golden (Xtreme) franchise was renamed the JETS in homage to NHL Hall of Famer Bobby Hull, who is part of the new ownership group.

- ONE MOVE: The Osoyoos franchise moved to Kamloops keeping their ‘STORM’ name and stay in the Okanagan Shuswap Division.

- INTER-DIVISIONAL PLAY reverted back to the original format prior to the 2004-05 season. The Grizzlies will play one home game against every team in the Neil Murdoch and Eddie Mountain Division and in return will travel to those teams for an away game.

END of SEASON: YEAR END BANQUET and AWARDS NIGHT

On Monday, March 12, the Revelstoke Grizzlies and about 140 of their most ardent fans gathered to celebrate their season with applause and awards. Brad Fox was named Coach of the Year for the Division by the KIJHL and was justifiably proud of the young men who hit the ice night after night this past season. “You have been absolutely fantastic,” Brad Fox said after dinner. “My message to you is, Number One: respect yourselves and other people. If you treat people the way they like to be treated you’ll be treated the same way. You will be successful. Don’t ever quit and set your expectations high. Believe in who you are and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.”

That message is typical Brad Fox – direct and intended to not only boost player morale but help mould them into decent human beings. Couple that with natural ability and plenty of training and you end up with a powerful and highly motivated hockey team.

There were plenty of laughs; too, not only from the players who were called up to receive their awards but also every Grizzlie player along with the coaching staff came forward to give their thanks and comments regarding the season.
