Tyler Burke (Grand Forks Border Bruins), Logan McCabe (Grand Forks Border Bruins) and Devin Degenstein (Revelstoke Grizzlies) have been selected as the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending March 23/25.
Burke – Top Forward – The Vernon native scored four goals and added two assists in two games and had a plus three rating to help the Border Bruins sweep the Beaver Valley Nitehawks in the second round. In Game 3, a 4-3 overtime win on March 18, Burke scored twice, including the winner, and had three points. In Game 4 on March 19, Burke again had another two goal, three-point performance, including the winner, in a 6-2 final. Burke averaged 24:42 of playing time in the two games. In eight KIJHL Teck Cup playoff games, Burke has five goals and 11 points.
McCabe – Top Defenceman – The Edmonton native has earned his second straight Top Defenceman nod after having two goals and two assists for the Border Bruins, helping them sweep the Nitehawks. He did so while logging 32:52 a game and was plus two. In Game 3, McCabe scored and assisted on Burke’s overtime winner in a 4-3 final. In Game 4, McCabe had another goal and two-point performance in a 6-2 final. In eight games, McCabe leads all KIJHL blueliners with four goals and 11 points.
Degenstein – Top Goalie – The Camrose, Alta., native played 220 minutes in four games for the Grizzlies, earning three wins with a miniscule 0.82 goals against average and an incredible .978 save percentage against the Princeton Posse. In their 4-0 loss in Game 3, Degenstein played the final 40 minutes and stopped 19 of 20 shots. In Game 4 on March 19, Degenstein posted a 30-save shutout in a 1-0 win. He made 12 saves in the second period. During a Game 5, 5-2 win, Degenstein was very good making 35 saves. In the clinching Game 6, he capped off his week with a 47-save performance in a 3-0 win. He made 19 third-period saves. In five playoff games, Degenstein has three wins with a 1.20 GAA and a .963 SP. This is Degenstein’s second Top Goalie selection of the season.
