Tristan Weill (Kimberley Dynamiters), Kesler Fyfe (Revelstoke Grizzlies) and Eric Kahl (Grand Forks Border Bruins) have been selected as the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending April 6.
Weill – Top Forward – The West Kelowna native scored four goals and added an assist in three games for the Dynamiters while playing an average of 22:35 a game and was plus three. In their 4-3 win over the Grand Forks Border Bruins on April 4, Weill scored twice. He collected a goal and an assist in a 3-2 overtime loss to Grand Forks on April 2, then sent Game 5 to overtime against Grand Forks on April 4 with his tying goal in the third period. The 20-year-old finished the KIJHL Teck Cup playoffs with eight goals and 20 points in 16 games, which currently ranks him second among all players. In his career, Weill put up 50 points in 53 career playoff games.
Fyfe – Top Defenceman – The Lethbridge, Alta., native collected five assists in three games for the Grizzlies while playing an average of 20:22 a game and was plus seven. Fyfe assisted on the Grizzlies’ opening goal in a 5-3 win over the 100 Mile House Wranglers on March 31. In an 8-3 win on April 1 against the Wranglers, Fyfe collected three assists, including on Dayton Abbott’s insurance goal. Then in a 5-4 win over the Wranglers on April 4, the 6-0, 190-pound blueliner assisted on the winning goal by Connor Shymoniak. Fyfe has 11 points in 16 KIJHL Teck Cup playoff games, which is a new career high. Fyfe registered nine points in his previous 29 career playoff games.
Kahl – Top Goalie – The Saskatoon, Sask., native won two of the three games he played in, making 102 saves on 110 shots for a 2.40 goals against average and a .927 save percentage. Kahl allowed four goals in a 4-3 loss to the Dynamiters on April 1, making 30 saves. In a 3-2 overtime win over the Dynamiters on April 2, Kahl was excellent making 43 saves on 45 shots. Then on April 4, Kahl stopped 29 of 31 shots in a 3-2 overtime Game 5 win. Kahl has won eight of his nine playoff games and has a 2.26 GAA with a .926 SP. This is the second straight week that Kahl has been named the Top Goalie.
